Morven Wi’ the Stonehaven Crew – A Poem by Paul Nairn
** Morven Wi’ the Stonehaven Crew**
Oot frae Stonehaven, a hardy band,
Wi’ boots an’ sticks, we took oor stand.
Twenty-six souls, brave an’ bold,
Climbed Morven’s slopes in sleet an’ cold.
The wind it howled, the hail did sting,
Wi’ gusts that made the heather sing.
But Ryan, Gary, an’ Ralph were there,
Leadin’ the wye wi’ muckle care.
We followed paths baith steep an’ wild,
In Lord Byron’s steps, Morven’s child.
For he’d kent this land, its hills an’ braes,
In youth’s bright, wanderin’ days.
The snaw lay deep, the cloods hung low,
Wi’ naethin’ seen but winter’s glow.
Poor visibility tested us a’,
But nae a body was left to fa’.
Wi’ banter shared an’ spirits high,
We trudged through the storm wi’ nae a sigh.
Aye, Morven’s peak, it gied us pride,
As doon the hill we took oor stride.
The nicht it ended wi’ cheer an’ glee,
At Bar 44, we raised oor spree.
A meal we shared, a toast tae oor crew,
Well done tae a’, ye hardy few!
Stonehaven Mountaineers, ye’ve shone,
In hail an’ sleet, ye’ve soldiered on.
Wi’ Byron’s spirit, ye’ve passed the test,
This gallus club, aye, ye’re the best!
