Inchnadamph Hostel is located in the heart of Assynt surrounded by spectacular mountains including Ben More, Quinaig and Suiliven, star of the 2017 movie Edie with Sheila Hancock. The Munros Conival and Ben More (Assynt) are accessible in a day walk starting at the Lodge. Highlight of our week will be Karen’s attempt to bag her last Munro, she is planning to make her last her Seanna Braigh, scene of her mountain rescue drama a couple of years ago, the day of the walk will depend on the weather forecast.

Nearby are the Bone Caves so called because of the large number of animal bones found there, predominantly these are reindeer but remains of rarer animals have been found including polar bear, arctic fox, brown bear etc. and the only skull of a northern lynx ever found in Scotland.

At the east end of Loch Assynt are the ruins of Ardvreck Castle residence of the Macleod’s of Assynt until 1672 when it fell to their traditional enemy the MacKenzies ending the MacLeod rule of the area. The most notable moment in the history of the castle came in 1650 when the Marquis of Montrose sought refuge there after his defeat by the Covenanters at the battle of Carbisdale, however he was betrayed and subsequently executed as a traitor.
