NH 975073<br><strong>Distance from Stonehaven to Start Point:<\/strong> 100 miles<br><strong>Drive time from Stonehaven to Start Point: <\/strong>2 hours 30 mins<br><strong>Walk Distance: <\/strong>19.5km<br><strong>Estimated Duration:<\/strong> 6 \u2013 7 hours<br><strong>Ascent: <\/strong>1410m<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At 1296m Braeriach is the 3<sup>rd<\/sup> highest mountain in Britain and of course a Munro. Arguably the finest of the Cairngorms, reaching its vast summit plateau requires a long approach walk. It is situated in a truly wild place with a vast range of dramatic and beautiful corries situated around the plateau.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"331\" height=\"480\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thesmhc.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/image-5-331x480.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3427\" style=\"aspect-ratio:0.6887352801175521;width:674px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thesmhc.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/image-5-331x480.png 331w, https:\/\/www.thesmhc.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/image-5-207x300.png 207w, https:\/\/www.thesmhc.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/image-5-103x150.png 103w, https:\/\/www.thesmhc.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/image-5.png 520w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 331px) 100vw, 331px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Our walk will start at the Sugar Bowl Car Park situated on the road from Glenmore up to the Ski Centre at Grid NH 975073 where reindeer may be seen in an enclosure nearby. <br><br>From the car park seek the path on the bend in the road heading due S and cross the nearby burn and stay with the path as it winds its way in a SW direction towards the steep sided rocky ravine the Chalamain Gap. From the gap descend into the Lairig Gru. crossing the iconic Lairig Gru the path continues WSW climbing the spur to the E of Coire Gorm towards the summit of Sr\u00f2n na Lairige at 1184m. Passing the summit, (or climb if you wish) continue SW around the corrie edge to summit of Braeriach at 1296m.
