The area is steeped in history including a Font Stone (NT176592) where the occasional baptism is apparently still performed and some of the tracks are of historical religious significance. <br><br>An alternative start can be made from Thriepmuir Reservoir Ranger Centre (NT182655) just off the A70 near Balerno.
